WOODMAN INSTITUTE MUSEUM

In 1916, Annie Woodman bequeathed an astonishing $100,000 for the creation of an institute to promote education in science, history and the arts. The museum consists of three buildings: the Woodman House, the Hale House and the Damn Garrison log cabin. Some of what you'll find on display include minerals, shells, Native American items, dolls, artifacts from the Civil War, furniture, paintings, faming items and much more. The museum is open for Wed to Sun 12:30 – 4:30pm. |

Named in the 1630's by the areas first settlers, Strawberry Banke was recognized for the abundance of wild berries found on the shores of the Piscataqua River. Through restored furnished houses, historic landscapes and gardens, and displays of prized possessions and objects of everyday life the Strawberry Banke Museum tells the living history of the people who settled this area from the late-17th century to the mid-20th century. At the Sandy Point Discovery Center, visitors are treated to interpretive exhibits about the Great Bay Estuary and the creatures that call it home. Interactive displays inside focus on salt marsh farming, salmon migration, plankton and tides. Children can an get up close look at lobsters, horseshoe crabs and mud snails in the touch tank. Outside, a trail and boardwalk allow guests to explore the areas habitat's, including upland hardwood forests, freshwater wetlands, salt marsh and mudflats. The center also sponsors programs for adults and children, and kayak tours for the summer. |
